The Community of Casselberry
The cozy city of Casselberry is a Northeastern suburb of Orlando in Seminole County, FL snuggled between Winter Springs, Altamonte Springs, and Maitland. As with many cities in Central Florida, Casselberry is home to an abundance of lakes (30) and seventeen parks, including local favorite Secret Lake Park.
Once home to a Native American group known as the St. Johns people, the area was first used to protect settlers during the Seminole Wars. One of the first families in the area was established in the 1850s, and more settlers arrived after the passage of The Homestead Act in 1862.
In the mid-1920s, the area became one of the world's largest producer of Asparagus Plumosus ferns, distributing throughout the US and Canada. The area was known as Fern Park, but local developer Hibbard Casselberry convinced the residents to incorporate as a tax-free town in 1940, named after Casselberry himself. The City of Casselberry was incorporated in 1965, and property taxes were reinstated in 1976.
Today, the city is a dense suburban area with a variety of family-friendly activities and outdoor recreation, as well as spa experiences and plenty of shopping.
If you're into outdoor activities, Secret Lake Park is a local favorite, featuring plenty of areas to play sports, a boardwalk and fishing pier, and indoor and outdoor playgrounds. Casselberry Golf Club is home to a par-69 course with scenic views and an onsite restaurant.
