How to Turn Your Extra Room into a Cloffice

Today on the blog, Greta is showing us how to turn a closet into a cloffice (closet+office)! 

So let’s face it, we’ve been home A LOT over the past couple of months. Before COVID-19, I worked from home but alternated between the couch, my bed, and the kitchen table. I also live close to a coffee shop and if I needed to sit and knock out work could hang out there for a couple of hours. Our house has an office but it’s my husband’s and is very much his taste. I could never work in there so I just floated around the house.

However, when the pandemic hit and my husband started working from home, I was very jealous of his office. I thought it was so nice to have a dedicated workspace and designated area for all of your papers, electronics, and equipment! Our house has three bedrooms with one of those being a guest room. We don’t have guests often, maybe once or twice a year. Most of the year it’s an extra place for me to put the laundry when it’s done in the dryer and for storage. I was in the guest room folding two weeks’ worth of laundry and start thinking about how I should utilize the space in our house. I’ve seen Cloffices on Pinterest and began researching how I could transform the space to be what I needed and on a budget.

WHAT’S A CLOFFICE?

Cloffice = Closet Office. Turning the room into a Cloffice, I didn’t need to do much. I love the green accent wall and left it as well as the white dresser where my husband keeps all his clothes. Under the guest bed, I had two clothing racks that I wasn’t using. I wanted gold accents in the Cloffice so I picked up some gold spray paint and spend a day spray painting my clothing racks, shoe rack, knobs on the dresser, old picture frames I wasn’t using, and my vanity knobs. This gold spray paint breathed a second life into these pieces! I moved the bed into the hallway, set up the clothing racks, and started taking the clothes out of our master closet and moved my shoe rack in.

When everything was out of the master closet, I moved in the side table, box spring, mattress, and headboard. Then I moved my vanity into the Cloffice and repainted it stark white. It’s the perfect desk for now. I also found some other pieces around the house that I wasn’t really using like my mannequin, small bookshelf, and a few odds and ends. The space started coming together and I didn’t have to spend much to repaint the pieces. I took a while to figure out what I needed to buy and made a list.

I needed:

• A lamp
• Large Rug
• Desk Chair
• Dog Beds
• 7 ft Mirror for Try On Sessions

When I had some money saved, I headed to Old Time Pottery with a budget of $300. See how the pieces I got below and how the space came together!

CLOFFICE WITH OLD TIME POTTERY

I always find so many incredible gems at Old Time Pottery. You can go back multiple times in a week and still find something different each time. I love to put in my air pods, go in the middle of the day, during the week, and wander and see what I find. On this trip, I found the white 7-foot mirror ($90), Multicolored Rug ($100), Gold Lamp ($30), Green Faux Plants ($15), and some yellow/gold fabric.

I bought a dog bed for $17 but it ended up in Gatsby’s crate. While looking at the rugs, I saw a bin with fabric in it and saw this yellow. It matched the rug and I bought it for $15 thinking I could use it for something. I ended up taking two older dog beds that were ripped and old and covering them with this fabric and then putting some new fabric on my vanity chair.

I used all of my budget so I didn’t get a new chair today even though I found one I loved. The mirror and rug were good finds so I call my trip a success! When I have some more money saved, I’ll go back and find a side table and a comfy office chair. This room is a work in progress but I want to find pieces I genuinely love and that work in the room other than buying something just to buy it and I end up not liking it.
